Thanks to the
generosity of our listeners during past fundraisers, we have been able to
purchase over $10,000 worth of new equipment to
improve WRUW’s sound during the 2004-2005 fiscal year.
As you do your telethon show this year, please thank our listeners for
making all of these purchases possible. Their money was put to very good
use.
Equipment Purchased in 2004-2005
Two
(2) Denon professional broadcast CD decks. These units replaced
aging versions of similar decks that had developed serious playback problems.
Four
(4) Marantz professional broadcast CD decks. (Waiting to arrive)
These units will replace the older Denon CD players that have developed
serious playback problems.
One (1) HHB CD burner. This professional CD mastering
system gives us the flexibility to record live to CD, without using a
computer. This has been useful for recording bands who perform in Studio
A as well as for recording Public Affairs programs.
Two
(2) Sony Minidisc Player/Recorders (one in each studio). Although
this is a carry-over to "older" recording technology, we still
have several staff members who use minidiscs for transferring personal
recordings.
Three
(3) FM Tuners to monitor our air signal. One
was put into Studio B to provide the air signal to Studio B AND the monitors
in the record libraries and lobby. Another was put at the Transmitter
Site. The third will go into Studio C.
One
(1) Microphone Processor for Studio B. This unit helps improve
the sound quality from mic 2 in the production studio. Now all microphones
in the station are hooked to similar equipment and we have a consistent
"vocal sound" on air.
Five
(5) Shure PG48 Vocal Microphones with desktop stands. These microphones
are available for use by anyone who wants to do an interview program that
might require the use of Studio A. These mics and stands have already
been used by several staff members for this purpose.
One
(1) Temperature Control Monitor System for our Transmitter site.
The temperature of our equipment room at the transmitter site can affect
the quality of our broadcast signal. In the past, we had no method of
knowing the precise temperature. Now, we can remotely monitor temperature
while seated in the air studio or by calling into the transmitter by phone!
Two
(2) new receivers for monitoring EAS stations (one FM
receiver tuned to 90.3 FM, one AM receiver tuned to 1100 AM).
These special EAS receivers replace a haphazard arrangement of consumer
units we had wired in place that were preventing us from staying legal
in this area.
Several
pairs of reliable headphones for use throughout the station.
... and many other little repair items that are important to us ... but
may not be so important to listeners.
As you do your telethon show this year, please thank our listeners for
making all of these purchases possible. Their money was put to very good
use.
