“Effective fund raisers are not fast-talking salespeople trying to bring a quick buck to the institution. They are people who share and convey a deep belief in the merit and worth of the organization they represent ... You have to believe that your institution makes a difference.”

Jerold Panas
“Born to Raise: What Makes a Great Fund Raiser”

Thanks to the generosity of our listeners during past fundraisers, we have been able to purchase over $40,000 worth of new equipment to
improve WRUW’s sound during the 2006-2007 fiscal year.

As you do your telethon show this year, please thank our listeners for making all of these purchases possible. Their money was put to very good
use.

The most obvious thing we did with Radiothon Support

We rebuilt our production studio. We had new, custom furniture built, and installed several new pieces of equipment.

All wiring and equipment installation was done by our volunteer staff.

For the first time in about 15 years, both studios use the exact same technology and are 100% compatible and interchangeable.

Equipment Purchased in 2006-2007

A New Dell Computer for the Production Studio ... PLUS ... a new monitor for the air studio computer ... PLUS ... Adobe Audition 2.0 ... PLUS ... a new multi-function printer. Installed in the Fall of 2006, the new production computer provides faster processing speeds and more storage space for handling large audio files. The new monitor in the air studio provides greater visibility for our internet needs like playlist entry. The multi-function printer allows us the ability to fax, photocopy and print from one machine!

Repair of all eight (8) CD players. Because of the heavy use to which we subject our CD players, all of the decks used in the air studio and production studio were sent out for professional repair in the last six months.

A set of equipment to convert our signal to all-digital processing. The four pieces of equipment in this group help route a completely digital version of our audio signal over to the transmitter at Lake Park. The set consists of a new digital-audio version of our audio delay, a new digital limiter and compressor, a digital splitter to send a digital version of our signal to the streaming computer, and a conversion box that lets our existing EAS unit work in the realm of digital audio.

Two (2) Axia Audio devices to handle microphone amplification. The two new Axia "Microphone Nodes" give us the ability to seamlessly include microphones into our audio system without an extra set of preamps. Results: improved sound quality for our voices and more flexibility for future configurations. One unit is in Studio B, one unit will go into Studio A over the summer of 2007.

One (1) set of new monitor speakers for the production studio. These speakers provide crystal clear amplification in the new setup of our Studio B. The monitors are made by Samson Technology and are similar to the KRK speakers we purchased for the air studio last year.

Several pairs of reliable headphones for use throughout the station.

Turntable cartridges and needles. Replacement pieces for all the turntables throughout the station, plus extra needles for future replacements as needed.

... and many other little repair items and wiring needs for the new studio that are important to us ... but may not be so important to listeners.

As you do your telethon show this year, please thank our listeners for making all of these purchases possible. Their money was put to very good use ... very good use.
